Don’t Get Emotional with Data
I stopped building.
For 250 days straight I’ve been building, alone with code, perfectionism, and an untested vision. Eight-hour days of dedication to something no one had validated.
When I launched last month, the reception was positive but the conversions told a different story.
People liked the craftsmanship and features, but they didn’t feel an urgent need to BUY.
A notes app for writers, no matter how polished, wasn’t solving a problem that kept anyone awake at night.
Most founders hit this wall and pivot immediately. They abandon their gut feelings and chase the next shiny opportunity.
I’m reading the data differently.
I use Caravan every single day. Not because I built it, but because it does something no other app does. And with every piece of feedback, I’m learning how to position it better.
I positioned Caravan as an “AI Notes App for Writers” and expected writers to grasp the power immediately. They didn’t.
Here’s what’s cool about positioning. It creates urgency where features cannot.
Loom struggled as “screen recording software” until they repositioned as “async video messaging.” Suddenly they weren’t competing with technical tools but replacing meetings that waste everyone’s time. Same product. Different frame. Meteoric growth.
Caravan has powers that “AI Notes App for Writers” fails to capture. After 250 days of building and my first big market experiment, I’m closer to articulating what sets it apart. But reaching product-market fit will take many more experiments.
The future excites me because every day I’m not building, I’m planning and designing a better experience that reinforces my new positioning. I won’t spoil it yet, but let’s just say the month I’m taking off is not about rest.
I'm sharpening my skills across software, strategy, and storytelling to make the next version undeniable.
While others abandon ship at the first sign of resistance, I'm doubling down on what the data actually tells me.
The plane is still in the air.
