The Seasons of Life and Business

Jim Rohn’s 4 Seasons Philosophy

Amidst the sea of gurus, one is loved by all (as most gurus are hucksters, but not this one).

That man is Jim Rohn.

Whether you’ve heard of him or not, just listen to his words and you’ll love him too.

The following video is a part of his most famous seminar.

Before I heard this, I used to:

  • blame everyone but myself for my problems

  • hope no one hates me

  • feel too entitled to hustle like I’m broke

  • expect life to be easy

But as Jim teaches, “life and business is like the changing seasons.” It’s not simply good times or bad times. Not just winning or losing. Not random.

Jim’s Lessons:

  • Anticipate hard winters. But build the skills to survive them

    • Too distracted? Learn to focus

    • Too emotional? Learn some discipline

    • Too dependent? Learn a craft

  • Plant seeds expecting some won’t grow, but knowing some will pay off big

    • Build more new relationships

    • Try selling outside your usual market

    • Hire some more heavy-hitters

  • Protect your investments in summer and accept that not all will bear fruit

    • Don’t say yes to any new opportunities, follow through on what you’ve built

    • Get some feedback from existing customers and make them happier

    • Optimize your health so you have more energy to stick with your plans

  • Harvest in the fall without blaming anyone but yourself, for both the bounty or the pittance

    • Be grateful and proud of all the amazing things coming your way

    • If you weren’t so lucky, do a post-mortem and analyze how you can hit your next cycle better

    • Share your bounty with your team and loved ones, make everyone feel the win (or loss)

Takeaway

So, bro, don’t blame the world for your hardship, look for where more skills could make your next winter easier.

Not enough harvest? Then sow more seeds of opportunity in your Springs.

And protect your energy and your environment in Summers. Energy vampires love feeding on high-energy and focused bros. And it’s not their fault. It’s yours for allowing them in your universe.

Happy farming, bros 👨🏽‍🌾
